About the Venue

Inspired Academy Drama workshop is the brain child of a local actor who has appeared in numerous high profile television programmes. It is also the centre for a talent agency, which focuses on age groups from 7 -11, 11 – 16 and 16 – 21 to nurture their talent and be in the right space for a career in acting and performance. There is also an over 21’s for alumni

The Installation Brief

Our client simply wanted to create a more atmospheric space in which the students can feel more influenced and inspired. We needed to create a ‘theatre style’ environment. This needed to also enable students to not only perfect their art of acting, but also possibly get into technical control also.

The Solution

We looked at the best way to divide the room, so that the space could be used to its maximum, with students acting out their parts away from their peers. We needed to get the lighting just right too, and not just install spot lights which can be quite daunting to young actors. We used a combination of Chauvet Core par chip on board lighting fixtures which create both spot and wash lighting by simply adding or removing a fresnel style magnetic lens filter. This beam angle can be quickly changed to a 25 degrees spot to a 90 degrees angle by simply removing the lens. These fixtures were all connected via DMX to a LEDJ Scene Director lighting controller, to which we programmed some simple scenes, that the operator can store and recall as required.

To add a more stage like atmosphere to the space, we installed black heavy duty pipe and drape to certain areas. These can be drawn back when not in use, or can be used as side drapes to enter the performance area

A Word from the Client

Well, how simple was that! I was worrying how it would all look as we wanted to achieve this on a budget, and Mick, Ryan and the team came up with a simple solution for us! It looks great and has transformed the space!
