Situated on level 2 of the Cornerhouse Nottingham, Alto has recently undergone a full and extensive refurbishment turning it into a modern and sophisticated bar set right in the heart of Nottingham. Spread across one beautifully designed floor, the space has been divided into 4 stylish bar areas and screened off VIP area. Complemented with a luxurious outdoor terrace fitted with lounging day beds and cosy blankets, the view of Nottingham’s city skyline becomes the ultimate background for socialising.
The Installation Brief
Formerly the Saltwater, the new Alto bar,a joint venture for champion boxer Carl Froch, Marc Brough and John Glover, was to have a complete refurbishment and upgrade to a high standard premier venue in the Cornerhouse. Co- Owner and design consultant John Glover of Glover & Co had designed the scheme giving a whole new ambiance with 6 different spaces within the venue. All the spaces required different sound and light applications to compliment the design. Our brief was to ensure that this was achieved.
The Solution
The venue had 6 main areas. There are 4 areas inside ,VIP Bar, Dancefloor, Main Bar and Lower Bar and 2 areas outside, Bar & pagoda and general seating balcony. We split the sound system into 6 zones to give the ability to regulate the volume in each area. All areas had a quantity of 8” mid/high boxes (with the outdoor area having IP rated versions) complimented with 15″ Sub Bass units. The main dancefloor had more firepower fitted with Inspired Audio IQ12’s for mid top with DR118 Sub bass powered by 5000wt of Inspired Audio amplification. There are 2 DJ Booths 1 inside and 1 outside. This gives the option for the venue to have flexibility for the DJ to work inside or outside or 2 DJ’s to work simultaneously should the venue need to split events. During the daytime all zones can have the same or different music sources from laptop/iPad or TV. The effect lighting was all centred around the dancefloor and consisted of colour changing LED’s with large mirror balls and multiple moving head scanners.
