The Ned Ludd is on Friar lane which is a busy thoroughfare that leads down to the popular Old Market Square in Nottingham. Weekends are especially busy in the bar having a great vibe serving a cocktail of craft beers, world lagers and live acoustic music that all make the Ned Ludd the place to be and be seen.
The Installation Brief
The Ned Ludd is a small but extremely busy place, so the brief was quite simple, quality over quantity. Although throughout the week, the venue has mainly background music whilst serving food, the system needed to cope with live entertainment at the weekends. Being a small place, the PA speaker installation had to be discreet but powerful and not look intrusive in this quirky designer bar. At the weekends background music would become full on DJ based music, to cope with the rising ambient noise expected in a city centre music bar. Bass extension would also be required, along with the facility to control zones. Upstairs there is a second restaurant area that can also accommodate private hires. This second restaurant space required a combination of the main bar music plus the option of different music altogether, depending on the clients’ requirements.
The Solution
Music Gear Installations Division choose an installation speaker range that was capable of portrait or landscape orientation to best fit in the decor, utilising a discreet fixing bracket that would be invisible from the front elevation. The Electrovoice ZX1 was selected for its power, size, style and versatility, and had been successfully installed in several of the clients’ bars previously. Music Gear Installations installed 6 ZX1, with Yamaha P Series amplifiers, to enable use at different volume levels. These were supported by 2 Electrovoice ZX 12” Sub bass units, that were encased into the walls to blend in with the decoration. We also installed 2 XLR wall plates, in which an Allen & Heath mixer could be plugged into when a live act was on, and discreetly locked away when not required. Levels for both live music and DJ based recorded music was controllable from behind the bar. A small amount of subtle LED lighting was installed to light up the live act. Finally, upstairs required ceiling speakers in both the restaurant area and the stairs, again controllable on different zone
”We chose Music Gear Installations because they have previously installed sound and lighting in some of our other venues and they have always done a great job and have gone the extra mile for us. We always feel comfortable with Music Gear Installations because they work as though they are part of our team and their aftersales support is second to none
