About The Venue

A grade 2 listed building situated on the outskirts of Nottingham. The place has been a wedding venue for a number of years, but had recently failed to retain its reputation as a prime wedding location. With new owners and a total facelift, that was about to change.

The Installation Brief

The venue wanted to cater for all clients, whether a full wedding party, covering garden area, ceremony room, orangery and main function room, or a visit to the first floor restaurant, including snug and private dining areas, all zones had to be independent from each other, as several different customer celebrations, maybe taking place at the same time. Control of the music within the different areas was required to be localised, with almost separate installations taking place. Overall the system was to mainly cater for background music with the venue opting for the visiting entertainers, whether DJ or band, to bring their own equipment. Although we gave the reasons for potentially accommodating the visiting artistes, it was felt that the installation speakers needed to remain small and any sub bass enclosures that would be required wasn’t an option.

The Solution

Our speaker brand of choice throughout the various rooms was Audac. These are chosen for their reliability and appearance and are a great sound from such a small enclosure. In the Orangery, restaurant and the function room we installed a quantity of Audac’s ATE range. The ATE06 is a great full range speaker and what makes this range special is the CleverMount bracket, which enable any angle, whether hung portrait or landscape. In the Reception, snug and private dining areas, we installed the WX502 speaker. Because of the complexity of the various floors and control, along with the difficulty to try and run the cable across various floors for multi zoning, we decided to effectively install 3 different systems. The Function room, orangery and outside area (although no speakers were installed outside at this point, due to drilling the brickwork was still under review, we installed the cable and zone provision) were controlled via a Cloud multi Zone line mixer, with Denon Bluetooth connectivity receivers installed in both the function room and the orangery, Shure radio microphones were also installed in the main rack and the antenna was routed to the main function room. Within the snug, reception and private dining areas, we installed Adastra RM series line mixer amplifiers, each with Bluetooth connectivity and auxiliary option for the tablets that were to be used in these areas.

There will be a phase 3 before the summer to install the outdoor speakers and ceiling speakers to the accommodation hallway on the top floor.

We’d used Music Gear Installations when I worked at another large wedding venue just a few miles away. The job there was a lot bigger and I know that it was a lot more of a challenge. What impressed me was how they just got on with it and although there were a lot of challenges there, they coped with it easily. When I joined the Woodborough Hall team I knew that the MGI team would do a great job. The fact that they are local also helped. We had a wedding party open day before the venue was fully completed and MGI fixed me up with some portable speakers for the reception and function areas, with no charge. They’re a great team to work with.
