Situated on the edge of an industrial park in a new industrial building in Heanor, Derbyshire, the building is cavernous and acoustically challenging! Consisting of the main soft play area, smaller rooms, main reception and cafeteria area.
The Installation Brief
Music and announcements were required throughout. Because of the separate areas, the potential to have different music was also required. These were used for private birthday parties, etc. The larger of the side rooms also required lighting to help create a disco type atmosphere.
At 8 metres high, the main challenge was getting the sound close to the play areas, rather than reverberating above. We chose to install 8 x Adastra pendant speakers for the main area. These dome type speakers have good all round projection and come equipped with 4.5mt of speaker cable, enabling them to be lowered closer to the area. We used Z purlin clips to attach the speaker cable around the building. The reception area was a suspended ceiling, making it convenient for ceiling speakers to be installed, similarly with the smaller rooms. One of the side rooms wanted more of a disco feel. In this area we installed L2 Audio TM10H full range speaker and wall brackets, along an assortment of KAM and QTX effect lighting. All speakers were wired back to main reception and a Cloud CX163 zone mixer was used to enable control of different music to each area. We used QTX amplifiers to power the sound throughout. A paging mic was installed and the fire alarm was also connected to the zoner, enabling the music to be cut should the fire alarm go off.
”Nice thing about Music Gear Installations was with them being local and having a showroom, we were able to listen to the bigger speakers and look at various lighting effects. Their service was spot on and they worked long days to enable us to meet our opening deadlineKieran BrownCentre Owner
