Situated within Nottingham’s trendy creative quarter, The Lace Market, Hockley, S&B’s is on the busy main thoroughfare, adjacent to numerous popular restaurants, bars and independent retailers. The Salon has been open for more than 12 years and because of its positioning, enjoys a lot of walk in trade, as well as by appointment. It has no fewer than 12 stylists.
The Installation Brief
Regarded as one of the premier salons in Nottingham, everything about the experience had to be top notch. It was let down by a lack of ambience . The atmosphere and the vibe was there, but music can make all the difference. The existing music system was little more than home Hi-Fi. A simple to use solution was required, so that the staff could just come in, switch on and forget about it. It needed to be out of site of the busy counter area. Although ‘only’ a salon, music was required to be very much part of the experience, so it needed to be able to cope with reasonable volume levels.
The Solution
With subtlety being key, the speakers had to look right blending into the colour scheme and be able to deliver reasonable SPL’s. 4 x white MASK6 from Apart–Audio were chosen. We kept the speakers low impedance, which are better for higher volume levels with good bass response. This can’t be achieved as well from 100v line applications. We installed a Citronic 1U amplifier and Adastra line mixer / media player with Blue Tooth Connectivity to enable smart phones or tablets to be connected wirelessly. These 2 items fitted neatly into a small cupboard.
”The guys came in and had a good chat to establish our requirements. Because we’re a busy salon, installation times were awkward. The lads arranged to come in when it suited us, like during our training Monday and later when the salon had shut. We’re not a bar so didn’t want to pay a fortune, but wanted a good sounding system. We weren’t disappointed.
